Stop Mercury and Air Toxics Now: EPA-HQ-OAR-2009-0234

I am sick of Republicans attempting to stop the EPA from regulating their corporate masters who fund their campaigns.

Mercury pollution is poison. 48 tons of mercury are pumped into our air each year from coal-fired power plants alone. And just one gram of mercury deposited from the atmosphere per year, over time, is enough to contaminate a 20-acre lake. For decades, power companies have successfully fought off Clean Air Act requirements to reduce toxic air emissions including mercury, arsenic, dioxins and acid gases. Now we have an opportunity to stop power plants from spewing these toxics into our air without limit through the EPA's new Clean Air Act standards.

We need you to make sure the EPA has the support, and push, it needs to clean up this dangerous pollution and protect our environment and public health, despite polluters' all-out assault on the agency's proposal. The Center for Biological Diversity is joining forces with environmental, faith and public-health groups across the country to send the EPA hundreds of thousands of comments of support for the Clean Air Act and strong mercury and air-toxics limits. Please send your message to the EPA today in support of lifesaving protections that can keep mercury and other deadly pollutants out of our environment.
