I woke up to the sad news that Senator Ted Kennedy has succumbed to his brain cancer and passed away surrounded by his immediate family.
Also, to news that my grandson Ben who turned 13 on May 24th was rushed to the hospital last night with an excruciating headache, high fever, continuous vomiting and his hands were beginning to tingle. He had one large round spot of rash on his hip, one on each thigh and more on his neck and back. He was diagnosed at the hospital with Lyme Disease. He was in camp last week and came home on Saturday suffering with a severe sore throat which he'd had for days and my daughter took him to the doctor first thing Monday morning but the doctor did not think he had Lyme Disease because the rash did not have a bullseye. He continued to deteriorate and couldn't keep any fluid or food down and needed to be in the dark for his headache. Finally arond 9:30 pm last night, Tuesday they took him to the hospital to get some fluids into his body. By the time he got home last night from the emergency room around 2 am he was feeling much better.
This morning he still has a fever and slight headache but now he has the medicines that will keep him comfortable including the doxycycline for the Lyme Disease which we now know for sure that he has. Imagine if his parents did not have health insurance. He might have died. How many other children are suffering but can't get medical care?
I heard all this about my grandson after I heard the news about Senatory Kennedy. My first thought was why not name the new Healthcare Bill after Senator Kennedy. Call it the Senator Kennedy Health Care Bill for America. Maybe then the churlish conservatives behaving so shamelessly will think again about what they are trying to put an end to before it's even finished being written. We want the Senator Kennedy Health Care Bill for America now.
