Being a part of the Obama GOTV was exhilarating and exhausting. The final day, Tuesday, I called my block neighbors to ask them again to vote, went to Obama Headquarters in Ardmore to phone-bank for a few hours and later I was scheduled to poll watch from 6 to 8 PM. When I arrived a little early, I was asked by my Democratic committee member to visit the three people on my block/street who had not voted yet. So I got in my car, drove home to get my list of names and addresses and then walked my block and knocked on more than the three doors because I could not find one address and it was dark already. It turned out to be very rewarding as I got to meet neighbors I had never met, most of them, and even knocked on the doors of three neighbors listed as Republicans. All three households had voted for Obama. Our entire voting population in the Merion area had voted by the time I got back so I actually got to head for home 15 minutes early. I can't tell you how much fun it was going to Obama headquarters every day of the weekend before November 4th to phone-bank. I met so many wonderful people and there was so much food that people had donated. Delicious food too. Folks actually had to wait for their turn to phone-bank as so many people showed up. It was wonderful to be a part of this historic occasion.
Sadly, I fell asleep on my couch when it was announced that Obama had won. My husband Victor woke me up to tell me. I fell asleep again and missed his acceptance speech live.
Yesterday I was in bed all day as were my neighbor friends who were part of the weekly phone bank we were part of. We all felt sickish from body aches, nausea, sinus problems, etc. I did not post here much but now it is time to get back to normal life. I have a huge garden and so much work to do, transplanting plants, trees!!!, putting away outdoor furniture and umbrellas and generally just getting ready for winter.
It was all worth it. I love Barack Obama so much, apparently just like the rest of the world. We are so lucky going forward. I know Obama will solve all of the worst problems we face. It may take some time but the Bush/Cheney nightmare is just about over.
