Colin Powell earned back my respect

And mine, too.
Since leaving Bush's employ, General Powell has suffered the life of a tragic hero.
We never knew for sure what General Powell's motivation was when he played the role of Bush's hit man at the UN.
It was wrong-minded by any measure - even if it was the blind allegiance of a life-long soldier. A lowly Private can refuse orders if he believes those orders are illegal (ie the deliberate murder of civilians).
The question was whether or not Powell knew at the time that Bush's argument for war was based on lies and greed.
I now believe he was blinded by that soldier's sense of loyalty. In his endorsement of Senator Obama, General Powell reveals himself as a sensible and thoughtful man - finally freed from his military rigidity and bursting with new-found intellectual clarity.
