Extremely sick with exceedingly painful cough

Poor metaphor on my part but I can't think. I have been sick since last Wednesday which proceeded to just get worse and worse. I tried to get by with over-the-counter medications, Robitussin Complete Care helping the most with my very painful cough. Yesterday I started antibiotics. So hoping I am better by this Saturday.
I'm being given a birthday party by my husband even though my birthday isn't until Monday. There is a family baby shower planned for Sunday. I wanted a party but now I feel like it's making a fuss over something I would rather pretend didn't happen. The number puts me up there with a number that seems to be universally ancient. Maybe this will be my last year on earth. I know I don't want to get any older where everything begins dissolving. Some people my age reached this stage ten years ago but mercifully I've been fighting age my entire life and I have found each year is not so bad.

#1 - Be proud and confident about how you look, how you think, your family, your background and upbringing, your opinions and viewpoint and your goals and ambitions. Those who disparage any of these are most likely insecure, envious and less accomplished than you are.

#2 - Don't worry about fitting in and don't make fitting in one of your goals. Almost always, what you're trying to become a part of is shallow and mediocre. The "cool crowd" is probably afraid of individuality and threatened by those who see things differently.

#3 - Listen to the little voice inside your head. It's almost always "the truth" speaking. Hear what that voice is saying and you'll choose the right option and go down the right road.

#5 - Only you can define "success." Find what you LOVE to do and make that your life's work. Then get up earlier, stay later, work harder and learn more than your competitors. Be more focused and passionate, and you WILL succeed.

#6 - Your family, friends … people are what count. Not money, fame and success (though they do feel good). Kindness, concern and compassion for those less fortunate - including animals - is the greatest virtue.

#7 - Be open to love but not desperate for it. And know when to leave a relationship (that little voice will let you know). But remember #6 above. Leave gently.

#8 - On grooming: Take care of your teeth. Buy a Waterpik and use it every day (mix water & Listerine). Get your teeth cleaned every six months. Get a tongue scraper and use it. BAD BREATH is a deal breaker. Shower often and use deodorant. Clean is good.

#9 - DON'T GET MARRIED BEFORE 30!!! You are not conscious until you reach that age.

We demand the creation of a Presidential Commission tasked with ending the influence money has over our representatives in Washington.

An overwhelming majority of Americans agrees that that money plays too much of a role in the way decisions are made in Washington, and in our state capitols. A commission to find ways to limit that influence can have profound impact on our economy and our democracy.

I am so disgusted that every member of congress has multiple lobbyists who pay large sums to get their issues satisfied and we the people are just individual who have no clout with our calls, our emails and our petitions. We have no power because we can't make huge contributions to your campaigns. There is no democracy, there is just Corporatocracy and it sucks.

You are letting the environment, our water and air be polluted by dirty energy and your answer has been to attempt to gut the clean air and clean water bills because the polluters give you huge contributions. I am talking about drilling in our oceans, hydraulic fracking on fragile land, poisoning of water and mountaintop mining. All deeply shameful. We want to start this century with investment in clean energy (not natural gas) and new infrastructure in roads, high tech bullet trains, new airports, etc.

I have a lot more to add but this letter will become too long. Suffice it to say, please change from letting big lobbyists influence your decisions that affect our environment. Let the Bush taxcuts expire and DO NOT raise the age of retirement either. People become frail at 60 and the older one become the greater chance they will get cancer. If anything, lower the age to 60. Please help your constituents and protect us from further environmental damage.

Former state Representatives Carole Rubley and Dan Surra will co-chair the Citizens Marcellus Shale Commission, which will hold hearings across Pennsylvania to gather citizen perspectives on the Marcellus Shale and produce a final report for policymakers. Williamsport is included in the list of 5 hearing locations; see full schedule below.

“Marcellus Shale development will have a huge impact on our Commonwealth and it is critical that we get it right,” Surra said. “This commission will give citizens an opportunity to add their voice and bring some necessary balance to this critical debate.”

“The Commission will give the people of Pennsylvania an opportunity to weigh in on this important issue,” said Rubley. “Their input should inform state policies to ensure gas drilling is conducted in a responsible manner.”

Earlier this year, Governor Tom Corbett’s Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission, heavy with industry representatives, produced a report and recommendations on shale drilling.

The Citizens Commission was formed by eight leading civic and environmental organizations to give Pennsylvanians living with drilling in their backyard a place to speak out and recommend action.
The Governor’s commission told only part of the story. The citizens of Pennsylvania have a different story to tell.

The Commission will hold five hearings across Pennsylvania, beginning on Wednesday, August 31 in southwestern Pennsylvania. Each hearing will be held from 6-9 p.m., with the first hour reserved for expert testimony and the remaining two for public input. The Responsible Drilling Alliance will be represented on the Commission by Board of Directors member, Barb Jarmoska.

At the end of the hearing process, the Commission will produce a report documenting the opinions and concerns of citizens and deliver that document to Governor Corbett and the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

It is RDA's sincere desire that you will be on hand at Lycoming College the evening of September 13. Please plan to attend this important public meeting to share your views and personal stories about the positive or negative ways drilling has made a personal impact on your life.

I am outraged by the Republicans refusal to raise the debt ceiling without raising revenue while cutting services to the disabled, the frail, the elderly, poverty-stricken, millions of the jobless and don't end healthcare for children.

Reublicans are shamless too and proud of it in a sick greedy way.

You will cut Medicare and Social Security so people earning over $200,000 get to keep an extra 3% that the Bush taxcuts took out of the economy without paying for them. You voted for this and you also voted for the Iraq War, which wasn't paid for and you kept on raising the debt ceiling to pay for it. The constant screaming of "less government" and "less regulation" is a scam so frackers can poison our water and mining companies pollute rivers and ruin mountains.

Raise the damn debt ceiling. Take a stand against a bunch of new Koch Brothers funded teaparty congressmen. Why should they be allowed to ruin our American system of protecting our environment and health care for all. It is a human right.

I am very very angry and I too need our social security checks to pay our mortgate and I need medicare which partially paid for my breast cancer treatment when I turned 65 in the middle of it. I do not abuse it either.

My husband and I worked all our lives putting in money to pay for SS and Medicare. Raise the ceiling on salaries to entire paychecks and there will be no problem with future monies to pay for both.

What happened to nice Republicans who used to care about the environment and normal people? People who aren't millionaires?

And please tell your fellow congressmen to stop the constant droning about the "job creators" as they've had the taxcuts since Bush passed them and no new jobs were created. It is just a focus group tested slogan.

This is going to be the Republican Party's Waterloo and if I were you, I'd care more about your constituents than any pledge signed for Grover Norquist. He is a terrorist.

Higher Taxes on the Rich for Protection by the Military

Perhaps I missed it but I haven't read any framing of the issue making the point that the top 2% of the wealthiest people in the United States and big corporations with plants and businesses around the world have their wealth protected by the military and the CIA. They should pay a much higher rate of taxes than any other people in the country.

The military is made up of young people from the middle class and poor and immigrant families who see their only opportunity for education and betterment is by joining the military. They are fighting wars which protect the wealth of billionaires and big corporations.

The Military Industrial Complex makes billions from government contracts we all pay for with our tax dollars. The Iraq War was paid for by raiding Social Security Funds. So, the middle class is getting screwed twice over.

Instead, billionaires like the Koch Brothers buy lobbyist and members of congress when the lobbyist's money and campaign contributions should be going to the Federal government for payment to protect their ability to get rich and stay rich.

They are already wealthy so why do they need that extra 3% that the Bush tax cuts gave them?

Class war is called for if Congress guts Medicare and Social Security. I hate to say it but Glenn Beck may be right. There IS going to be a revolution and it will get very ugly for the super rich. But I guess that's what private contractors are getting ready to do, shoot down people when they rise up, because the bloodsuckers know it will happen.

Billionaires can avoid possible bloodshed if they decide to not turn America into an apocalyptic landscape like something out of Mad Max and Thunderdome because that's where we're headed. Keep America peaceful and give everyone throughout our society basic human rights. And stop trying to take our vote away.

I have been following any news about Monsanto ever since my good friend worked for a women's law center in Washington, DC and the case she was working on involved Monsanto and small farmers. Because the wind had blown some genetically modified seeds into their nearby fields, small farmers were being sued by trillionaires corporation, Monsanto.

So I googled Monsanto and found this outrageous information. I'm probably the last person to read this story but I found it at thepeoplesvoice.org's covering Environmental,political and social justice issues.

She defended Monsanto’s fight to contaminate the environment with its GM alfalfa, not the American people’s right to safe feed and a protected environment.

The lower court ruled that “contamination of organic and conventional alfalfa crops with the genetically engineered gene has occurred and defendants acknowledge as much. Such contamination is irreparable environmental harm.”

That other fields, not those of Geertson Seed, et al., had been contaminated does not bother Kagan. “The district court failed to find either that respondents had suffered or were likely to suffer irreparable harm…”

So my favorite President has been lured into appointing folks with Monsanto ties. Why?

I received this email this morning from PA Health Access Corp. More outrage. Not just fracking on college campuses and cutting all school budgets, but giving money to businesses, who give him campaign money and support fucking fracking!

Governor Corbett is still set on taking your health care money and giving it to businesses.

What's particularly shocking is the type of program he wants to establish. The 'Liberty Loan' fund would give businesses cash so they don't have to borrow from the banks, like you or I would. Six other lending programs like it already exist. You know what doesn't exist? Six other options for people who lost their adultBasic health coverage.

This ridiculous proposal would take $220 million from the Tobacco Settlement Fund (TSF) - a fund that through an act of the legislature (Act 77 of 2011) was established to go towards programs like the former adultBasic.

TSF money traditionally and appropriately goes to adult health, uncompensated care for hospitals, cancer research, home and community-based care for Seniors. It was never meant to go to businesses.

The Pennsylvania House already passed their budget and, unfortunately, theirs took the TSF money away from health care. Call your State Rep and tell their office you're disappointed in the House budget for not protecting the TSF. Tell your State Senator to protect the TSF in their budget and say No to "Liberty" Loans.

I have been wallowing in my sadness all day over my wonderful big boy tomcat needing to be put to sleep yesterday, Valentines Day. His present was an end to his pain, mine too knowing he was leaving it behind. I try to communicate with my cats with pictures in my mind so all the way to the vet's, I was talking and sending him pictures of being in the garden in the summer and images of the kitties that will be waiting for him. Made me think of the lovely bones story where all the young girls who had been murdered by one serial killer spent their time in heaven together. I hope all the cats and dogs I had even in childhood will be waiting for me when I too get put to sleep.
My cats are so personal to me. Each one is unique and special and I have relationships with them all. Sox, named for his white feet with socks around his ankles or half way up one leg. Sox's name needed to be classed up to Socrates as he seemed so wise. I don't know how many years he lived outside on his own but when he showed up at my house about six years ago, he was a big boy even then. As though he had been well fed always.

I feel betrayed. Not only did President Obama cut a deal with Republicans to keep Bush taxcuts for the wealthy in place, he is taking money out of Social Security (monies which Bush used to pay for the Iraq War) at the time when it is running out of money. A two percent payroll tax holiday which will mean a few dollars out of the poor people's salaries. No one has a job anyway. You are rewarding your enemies, time and time again.
And the estate tax give away was totally out of nowhere. A disgrace! I think President Obama has been fooling Liberals all along. He doesn't respect us and is arrogant and dismissive of the people that worked our hearts out to get him elected. Hope is Dead. His brand of change is to turn against us. I suspect he is fulfilling his real agenda. I have defended him before, during and after the last election.
The Republicans are only in power in the house. Not the Senate. They said no and voted no on every policy the Democrats and the President proposed for the past two years. It is now time for Democrats to just say NO to everything Republicans propose. Filibuster and veto everything. Fight. Resist. Hell No to Compromise.
I know he will not give a rat's ass about losing my support but I will now gain lots of time to stop caring about him. Goodbye, President Obama. You broke my heart....just like John Edwards, another phony. But you're worse. You cheated on your base, real Demorats, many of us with cancer and who survived breast cancer too.

This is too good to be true. I just signed a petition to end natural gas fracking in NY and earlier I read that the actor Mark Ruffalo found out he is on Homeland Security's terrorist list for getting people to watch the documentary Gasland.

Faced with the potential for drilling—and the controversial new practice known as “fracking” or hydraulic fracturing—within city limits, the Pittsburgh City Council unanimously said “no.” Fracking means injecting water laced with sand and toxic chemicals underground to create deep ground explosions that release the gas. It’s a technique first tried in Texas, and which is now being used in Pennsylvania, where the Marcellus Shale geological formation, a source of natural gas, is buried over a mile down. The Marcellus Shale stretches from New York, through Pennsylvania, into Ohio and West Virginia.

Fracking has been demonstrated to be a threat to surface and groundwater, and has been blamed for fatal explosions, the contamination of drinking water, rivers, and streams. Because it disturbs rock that’s laced not only with methane, but with carcinogens like benzene and radioactive ores like uranium, forcing the mix to the surface adds to the dangers.

A delegation of politicians and community activists gathered on August 7 in La Leonesa, a small farm town in Argentina, to hear Dr. Andres Carrasco speak about a study linking a popular herbicide to birth defects in Argentina's agricultural areas.
But the presentation never happened. A mob of about 100 people attacked the delegation before they could reach the local school where the talk was to be held.
Dr. Carrasco and a colleague locked themselves in a car as the mob yelled threats and beat on the vehicle for two hours. One delegate was hit in the spine and has since suffered lower-body paralysis. Another person was treated for blows to the head. A former provincial human rights official was hit in the face and knocked unconscious.
Witnesses said the angry crowd had ties to local officials and agribusiness bosses, and police made little effort to stop the violence, according to human rights group Amnesty International.

Hydraulic Fracturing, a process that uses a high pressure injection of water, sand, and chemicals into the ground to crack open the shale formations and release natural gas. Chemicals and sand are violently pumped into the ground, preventing the fracture from collapsing.
The result, as one can imagine, is devastating to the area. Water wells become chock full of chemicals. Ground soil will no longer support life. The fracturing is so disruptive it even penetrates the water table. One of the most memorable scenes from the movie is Josh and a rural Colorado man holding a lighter next to a home sink faucet. After a few seconds, a huge burst of flame engulfs the lighter, natural gas has seeped into the water table and is now coming out our faucets.

I am in deep grief over my pet fish. I just buried my beautiful orange & white Koi whom I've had for about twelve years. He was as big as one of my cats. He didn't have to die.
I also lost about fifteen other beauties.
I am totally devastated as it's all my fault. I left a lever turned up instead of turning it back horizontal when I realized my backwash pump was broken yesterday. As a result all the water pumped out over night. There was barely inches of water in one end. During the night some critter got in the almost empty pond and ate several. There were dead fish lying on upper shelf and I buried them in my garden. This is him swimming with his brother and many of the other recently departed fish.

Ever since I got an iPad I barely blog anymore. I am chock full of opinions about so many subjects and I find the greatest information through Twitter which I would be sharing here on the blog if Twitter wasn't so fast. Just as I am prepared to post some great article, a new one comes along and distracts me and I just don't take the time to blog. I once loved it. Tried to find a great shot from the garden that I took with the camcorder I received for my birthday back in January to use as a new header shot but most of them are movies that are too shaky. I have not taken the time to learn how to edit them with iMovie yet but I'm getting closer.

Still freaked out about hydraulic fracking which anyone with a radio would hear the latest news about in PA and the Marcellas Shale area that gas extractors want to completely ruin. Pennsylvania Republicans can take all the blame. Don't vote for the scrooges Tom Corbett or Pat Toomey.

Victor responded to an article in Philadelphia Magazine about Ed Rendell's Oral History in this month's issue. They wmailed back and asked for permission to print his in 'letters to the editor' next month. He wrote a piece for Philly's Ad Club magazine and someone called him from the Inquirer for an interview about being one of Philadellphia's original Mad Men.

I've been working on the wealth corner of the property since I had a bunch of sapplings that had grown too large cut down. No sun was getting back there. Even though it was a Secret Garden, I really wanted to plant some sun loving purple and blue plants to stir up the Feng Shui earth energies. I think I have generated some business for Hot Productions. Victor says "keep gardening."

I finally saw the entire documentary on HBO last night. It is about as huge a man-made disaster as the Gulf Oil Spill and by one of the same culprits, Haliburton. It's why Dick Cheney had all those secret Energy meetings that no one has ever been able to learn about the details. No regulation of natural gas extraction by fracking and on top of it to make matters even more insidious and fucking evil, the companies don't owe any taxes of any kind on profits they make from the gas extraction. DICK CHENEY really IS THE DEVIL. Creating vast God forsaken land where ever they extract natural gas. Think of the moonscape replacing recently verdant healthy land.
And I bought into T. Boone Pickens new plans to extract natural gas. By buying into it I meant the possibility of another source of energy. But who knew what was happening - except for the poor suckers that contracted their land for natural gas fracking!

I got an iPad and was finally able to show my blog to some friends who are not computer literate. Yes, I still have some.
i let them read some of my more personal posts and then was given the advice that I shouldn't be so forthcoming about my early life. i felt completely paranoid at that point and am still digesting that opinion. So, if I am not posting, at least I am still tweeting. I can't bear to open my email program as there are hundreds everyday, mostly from the causes and petitions I sign and it's always info I would like to read but I can't take it. Now I select them all, peruse carefully for personal messages and then just do a wholesale delete. Sorry if I miss ones that people might be waiting for me to respond back.
The iPad is so great. Like having a very easy to tote laptop. Easy to recharge too. Not so easy to tweet on though. Promise I will be back soon.

I thought life could only get better with President Obama in office. Unfortunately, too many Democrats had previously voted for four of the most souless candidates ever to sit on the Supreme Court. Making videos of extreme animal cruelty is considered "free speech" instead of putting or leaving the perpetrators in jail. Story at Alternet:

The Supreme Court's 8-1 ruling comes down to protecting the depiction of a gruesome act on 1st Amendment grounds, not the legality of the gruesome act itself.
This week the Supreme Court handed down an eight to one ruling that, depending on your priorities, either reflects its total, unwavering belief in the primacy of the First Amendment, or else proves once and for all that the justices have no soul -- except for maybe Samuel Alito.
Free Speech Trumps Animal Rights
It has been almost 30 years since the Court declared a specific exception to the First Amendment. Among the ones that do exist are obscenity, defamation and fraud; in 1982 the Court also ruled that child pornography is not protected speech, a decision it upheld in 2008.
In his lonely 20-page dissent, Justice Alito drew a parallel between the sale of child pornography and the sale of crush videos, arguing that while the First Amendment protects free speech, "it most certainly does not protect violent criminal conduct, even if engaged in for expressive purposes."
"Crush videos present a highly unusual free speech issue because they are so closely linked with violent criminal conduct," he wrote. "The videos record the commission of violent criminal acts, and it appears that these crimes are committed for the sole purpose of creating the videos."
The decision by the Court, Alito warned, "has the practical effect of legalizing the sale of such videos and is thus likely to spur a resumption of their production."

It's mostly type over very few pictures but the story it tells will have you running to Wellness, a brand that is free of this moral outrage. I am never donating to those groups ever again. Liars, all. Spend the donated money on finding homes and tell the truth no matter how shocking and plain outrageous it is. I think people would be moved to take in more pets. Wow, an entire group dedicated to making sure animal suffering continues and that no progress is made in humane farming. Ever think that maybe people don't want to eat their meat with a side of agony?
I grew up on a farm and the cruelty was astounding. Loving animals comes naturally and even though I was very young, I protested loudly even then.
What is it about big Agra that any attempt to treat creatures with dignity is greeted as always going to hurt the bottom line? if people knew that domestic farm animals were not subject to such daily horrific cruelty they might enjoy their food a whole lot more.

Republicans holding fundraiser at Blackwater Compound

I have been posting articles about the military contractor/soldiers of fortune Blackwater now known as ZE, for a couple of years now. They were all over network news recently so I quit posting about them.
It's time to start again especially as the latest outrage about them and their mentors, the Republican Party documents their cozy relationship.

The Republican National Committee plans to hold an April fundraiser at a Moyock, N.C. compound owned by the military contracting firm formerly known as Blackwater, Politico reports.
According to an RNC fundraising document uncovered on Wednesday, RNC "Young Eagles" -- party major donors under 40 -- will meet at the facility in the spring.
Also on Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) has written a letter to the Justice Department asking for an investigation of Raytheon's alleged use of the Blackwater subsidiary, Paravant, for a contract in Afghanistan.
Levin has also suggested that the Pentagon should no longer consider granting a $1 billion contract to Xe Services LLC (formely, Blackwater) due to "serious questions" about the contractor's conduct.
It was recently reported that Blackwater employees took hundreds of firearms from both the U.S. Mmilitary and Afghan police forces using the South Park alias "Eric Cartman." Whole article.

I want to get over the gloom of the past month so I will take down the photo of my house right after the first big storm at the top of this page and start using the top portion of a painting by Tom Palmore as the header 'Ming the white tiger' - same as before.
And in the meantime, I may decide on something completely different.

Focusing my energy on the Wealth Corner of the Garden

As you can image, I work every year to keep this garden lush. It's difficult because there is hardly any light and major plants have kept dying after being in the ground only one year. I've been trimmng the trees back and branches over the years but it is a constant battle struggle to get some sun. There were a couple of summers while I was still sick and then the financial meltdown struck. Last fall I did days of pruning hundreds of feet of thick wisteria vines and dug out spreading grasses taking over some area.
The whole project was overwhelming as I was feeling very weak and there was an overwheming amount of garden jobs I wish I could have done or paid someone else to do.
Right now after the recent frequent snowstorms there is a tremendous amount of damage to trees and debris that would fill a couple of trucks. The cost of having our long driveway plowed from five snowstorms could better have been spent to purchase a great new computer. At least it gave someone a job. And we have not been destroyed by an earthquake. Poor Haitians. Poor Chilians.
Getting back to the Feng Shue wealth corner of my garden, I will have to start shopping for shade loving blue and purple flowers and maybe a fresh windchime to get the wealth energies generating, Opening the pond back up with the waterfall turned on will boost those energies too. Will have to do my Feng Shui energy rituals so there is something to look forward too. The gloomy dark days this past month have indeed taken a toll on me. I want to take care of myself and I want to take care of my garden trusting that everything we need will be provided. Believing in Feng Shui is crucial in its magical work.
Maybe I should go to the Philadelphia Flower Show?

Obviously something is going on by the fact that I changed my "Ming the White Tiger"photo to picture of the stone carriage house covered in yesterday's storm. Even open to changing all type face colors. Added some of the logo work produced by Victor over the years for Hot Productions or Sonder/Levitt Advertising. Power went off for about an hour today. Gave me time to think of all the things I would be doing if the power was on Like now is a good time to vacuum. Soon as power went back on had already moved on to something else. Have very strong urges to organize. Seeing chaos everywhere. I know it's good to finally feel that's it must be done. So I'm starting here on my blog. I will be adding flower pictures as I can because I lost so many pictures on my old harddrive which hadn't been backed up. Even though I loved the way it looked I just want to see what changing it feels like. May go back to Ming by Tom Palmore any day now. Testing.

Googling oneself and seeing your latest tweets come up immediately can be jarring. Making mistakes takes the starch out of faith in my judgement of what I tweet. Makes me question my mojo.
Neglecting to thank everyone that retweets every link I post or retweet from someone else. Rarely doing follow friday pound sign recommendations and including everyone that retweeted me or followed me. I have been taking the Twitterverse for granted. I have felt a cooling recently of my twitter friends. Or as Victor likes to say "You can find rejection anywhere."
Trying not to practice the Power of Now out loud here with me watching my thoughts - through my fintertips. Anyway, I guess it's a good time to walk away and get involved with my new camcorder. I have had ideas for so many years on little projects I'd like to create. Like make a small documentary. Just being able to capture my garden in full bloom will be fantastic and beng able to post it. Capture Victor on video, my kitties, just walking up the driveway when all the fruit trees are in bloom at once. I won't give tweeting up completely, but I am stepping back. And no one will notice.

Hope this becomes a way of life.

So far I have managed to eat less every day, drink a lot of cold diet green tea, eat nothing but vegetables, soups & protein drinks and do some form of exercise for short amount of times every day. Working to get back to my former health regimen when I used to take care of myself. My birthday did it. My daughter say everyone gets spring fever and wants to do new things but I can't remember a birthday that made me want to start over like this one.

Exactly one week ago I wrote down the prayer/mantra I found 30 years ago in The Life & Teachings of the Masters of the Far East by Baird Spalding. The whole series of his books told the story about physical immortality and the immortals. I linked to a story about the book by clicking on the title but I did not mention it in the article. Yesterday I decided to read one of the Web MD posts and got to this affirmation below. After eating a whole half of my birthday cake, one little slice at a time within 36 hours, I woke up and my body had exploded into what I have been on a quest forever to make sure never happens. My age must have a lot to do with it too. But it always takes a major fat crisis to get me started on a health cycle. Happy to report I have been good since I finished off the last slice of cake Monday morning. That cake was mouth-watering and I had to make it gone.
Truthfully, I have forgotten to take care of myself these last few years. I hope this affirmation keeps me on the road from now on to workout, eat right and stop drinking alcohol - one day at a time. Yes, I stopped drinking for 26 years until George Bush was awarded the Presidency and I decided what the hell am I saving myself for. I could not wait to try Cosmopolitans so I gave myself permission. It's been a ten year binge. Getting cancer just opened the door to cart blanche 'do anything I want' attitude as I did and got sick anyway. Maybe if I had not picked up alcohol I never would have gotten breast cancer. I just hope I can keep this commitment to myself. I will try to read this every day.

I had the Happiest Birthday I can remember

This past Saturday turned out to be full of happiness because my daughter made me feel so loved. It was a giddy kind of day full of laughing and thrills for me. I received my first camcorder which I have wanted for years. Could never reward myself but my incredible daughter gave me beautifully wrapped gifts in equally beautifiul shopping bags. Each present was a treasure she had selected knowing my exact taste. And plenty of surprise gifts too. Such as a large box of Feng Shui house blessing incense.
She made a dark chocolate expresso cake with peanut butter icing, and it was most delicious. White bean soup with rosemary and miso, my favorite Primo's classic cheese hoagie served with dark potato chips and coleslaw. We had our soup with home-made bread baked by my grandson at his school the day before. I know it's wierd but cheese hoagies are one of my favorite foods and Primo's makes one of the best.
Being with my daughter, son-in-law, grandson, mother and husband on my birthday was not unusual but this particular one filled me with so much joy. There is so much more to write but I will stop for now. Made growing older downright bearable.

Since it is my birthday in just a couple of hours, accompanied by the largest full moon of the year, I have decided to share the mantra I recite in my mind every day sometimes multiple times. I read it in the fascinating
"Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East" by Baird T. Spalding, which I read over thirty years ago. It is supposed to keep one from aging. The book was amazing and occupied my mind for years. I just googled it and see the book is available on Amazon.
Here is the prayer I highly recommend memorizing. It is my personal anti-aging formula. I present it here. Hope my memory is correct but I'm pretty sure it is.

According to Neil Harl, an agricultural economist from Iowa State University, Monsanto now has patented control over 90 percent of seeds and seed genetics, a chilling notion that has far-reaching consequences. Since the company regularly buys up independent seed companies, its competition is dwindling and the prices for its patented seeds continue to rise.
The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and at least two state attorneys general are probing Monsanto's contracts and agreements that many are alleging violate antitrust laws. Everything from exerting unreasonable control on farmers who purchase its seeds to flat out lying about their benefits is under investigation.
Once a farmer agrees to use even a single Monsanto gene or seed he is essentially locked into a contract with Monsanto that is very difficult to get out of logistically. Once the seed traits have proliferated a crop, removing it in order to revert back to a conventional seed is extremely difficult and expensive, leaving many farmers helpless to escape Monsanto's control over them.
Monsanto's contracts also contain provisions that mandate the destruction of all seeds containing its genes if and when a seed company changes ownership, making it easy for Monsanto to buy up seed companies cheaply and eliminate all competitor participation in the bidding process.
